Advent 2020

​We knew that this Advent and Christmas season would be different than others. Now, with the latest restrictions in place, we don’t quite know what to expect. But we look forward to surprises every December, don’t we? It just so happens that this year there’s a different “anticipatory twist” to things.

With all that in mind, we’ve come up with some slightly revised ways we can celebrate Advent and Christmas as a community. This year for Advent we will be utilizing a Jesse Tree. We have provided a booklet with daily readings and ornaments to colour, cut out, and put up around your home. We invite you to get creative and use the material as best suits your household. You could create a “tree” on a wall, window, or fridge door, hang the ornaments from ribbon(s) in a window or doorway, put them on a wreath, hang them on your regular tree, or…. If we have your address you will receive a copy in the mail, otherwise you can access an electronic copy HERE.

On December 13, you are all invited to be a part of our Soiree, but from the comfort of your own home. We’ll be sharing our gifts for the King in our Sunday morning Digital Commons. (Like I said, Jesus’ coming switched things up, so why can’t we change the ways we traditionally do things?) If you have a story, a song, or something else you’d like to perform live, or if you have something pre-recorded (video or audio) to offer, let us know and we’ll include you in things.

Regarding Christmas Eve, we will have something available for you and your family to  experience the story once again, but we’re not quite sure what that will look like. Keep your eye on the Highland FYI, website and Facebook page for updates. 

We trust that all of these opportunities, along with those (modified) traditions that are unique to your homes, will make this upcoming Advent and Christmas season one in which you come to know the Christ child in new and deeper ways.
