Heinz Klassen studied art at Vancouver Community College and the Alberta College of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited at the Vancouver Art Gallery and the UBC Fine Arts Gallery--among other places--and in group exhibitions.
In 2002, Heinz Klassen created an image of the Holy family, his first of 17 Christmas cards, which he sent out to family and friends. These images of the Nativity story made with pen, ink, coloured pencils and watercolours became an annual tradition and were eagerly anticipated by their recipients.
In 2016, Heinz completed his 15th and final image in the series. Some years ago, Heinz donated large prints of the originals (which he had completed to that date) to Highland Community Church where he has been a member for many years.
During the Christmas season, several years ago, Heinz spoke at Highland providing the biblical references for each illustration and the meaning of the symbolism found within them. This provided the congregation with the context for each illustration. Subsequently, his sister published the text of this Highland talk on her blog (links provided) together with the images."
